About

Targett’s conceptually driven practice employs acute self-awareness to investigate the construction of identity through the lenses of psychology, philosophy, and digital culture. Her work navigates the tensions between judgement, ego and the socially performed self, questioning how the introspective identity is constantly mediated and fractured. Through modes of painting and sculpture, Targett uses systems of order and repetition to reflect on the compulsions of control and its instabilities, mirroring the contradictions of what it means to be human. Her practice cultivates empathy, asking audiences to acknowledge and accept their own struggles reflected in others.
